Ames Boasts Rich History

Previous   •   Next

One of the unique pleasures of having an office within walking distance of Ames' Old Town Historic District is being surrounded by historic structures. The unique architecture of so many of the area's homes brings an appreciation for what Ames has to offer its residents: A rich cultural history, balanced with all the conveniences of a modern, growing community.

There are a number of resources available online to introduce you in detail to some of Ames' most well-known historical treasures. In total, Ames boasts 16 structures listed on the National Register of Historical Places and another two that are listed as Local Historic Landmarks. These structures range from notable Iowa State University landmarks like the Catt Hall (originally the Agriculture Building) and Marston Water Tower to historic buildings like the former Ames High School (now City Hall) and the Bandshell at Bandshell Park (which we can see from our windows on 6th Street!).

We are never reminded more of the importance of Ames' history than when we are working to establish new developments like Cameron Estates, Indian Ridge, Somerset, Northridge Heights and more. In a generation or two, our hopes are that these developments will also house historic structures that become a part of the rich tapestry of Ames' architectural heritage.
